Attributive forms

Als je zegt 'de dwarse kat' of 'een dwarse man', gebruik je 'dwarse' vóór het zelfstandig naamwoord.

With definite article: de dwarse; "De dwarse kat kijkt niet naar mij."
With indefinite article: een dwarse; "Een dwarse persoon doet vaak het tegenovergestelde."
Without article: dwars; "Hij is soms gewoon dwars."

Predicative form

Na 'zijn' of 'worden' gebruik je altijd 'dwars': De man is dwars.

Comparative

Bij de vergrotende trap gebruik je 'dwarser' om te zeggen dat iemand meer dwars is dan iemand anders. Bijvoorbeeld, 'Hij is dwarser dan zijn zus.'
